CLSC Metro

The CLSC Metro is on the corner of Guy and de Maisonneuve in Montreal.  There is a walk-in medical clinic, as well as many other services.  The entrance is right above the Metro stop Guy/Concordia (exit at the west end).  Tel: 514-934-0354.

The Yellow Door

The popular Generations outreach programme initiated at McGill’s “Yellow Door” in 1984 fosters intergenerational relationships.  Last year over 250 youth volunteers (many of them McGill students) were matched with some 300 seniors living in the downtown area.  Visits from the volunteers help the seniors feel less isolated.  Social events are organized including book club, knitting club, movie club and art club.  A “Friendly Favour” service is offered where volunteers run errands for housebound seniors.  Telephone 514-845-2600.

Atwater Library

The Atwater Library is conveniently located next to Alexis Nihon Plaza on Atwater Avenue. Under the leadership of Executive Director Lynn Verge, the Library has become a beehive of activity.  As well as home delivery of books and DVDs, many interesting courses are offered here.  There is also a popular computer school and book club.  1200 Atwater Avenue, Tel: 514-935-7344.

Encore Educational Club for Seniors

McGill Community for Lifelong Learning

Help Age Canada

The Worn Doorstep sponsors a Gran and a Granpa through Help Age Canada.  These sponsorships assist in providing our friends with nutritious meals, clothing, medical care and some small personal items.  Our Gran, Malani, lives in the Wimala Home for Elders in Mahagammedda, Payagala, near Colombo, Sri Lanka.  Our Granpa, Mr. Dorjee, lives in the Tibetan Home in Happy Valley, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, India.
