What is The Worn Doorstep and what do you do?

The Worn Doorstep is a home care business located in Westmount, Quebec, Canada. We offer support to seniors who wish to remain at home but need a helping hand. We have also assisted pregnant Moms on bed rest.

Do you provide home care in living assistance facilities?

Yes, as long as it is allowed by the facility. We offer companionship and assistance with keeping the room tidy, getting to the dining room and recreation, and outings.

Montreal is a big city. Which parts do you serve?

We serve Westmount, NDG, Verdun (Nun’s Island) and downtown Montreal.

How long has The Worn Doorstep been in business?

We have been in business since 2007. The President is Lesley Forrester, who studied Health and Social Services Management at McGill.

Tell me a bit about your caregivers.

Our caregivers are all certified PABs (Nurse’s Aides) and RNs (Registered Nurses). They are experieinced, kind, honest and reliable and they love helping people.

We also have a strong network of social workers, physiotherapists and other health professionals, gardeners, house maintenance, house cleaners and so on, if needed.

What are some of the things the caregiver can assist with?

The caregivers can assist with personal hygiene, grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housekeeping, accompanying the client to the doctor or other appointments, visits to the library, concerts and so on.

Is it possible to have the same caregiver come to the house?

Yes.

How do you travel to a doctor’s appointment?

We use Atlas Taxi because they are so good to seniors.

I do not live in Montreal but I want to know what the doctor said to my Mom or Dad. Can you report?

Yes – with the permission of the family and the doctor, Lesley can report on MD visits.

How much does it cost for home care?

Our hourly rates start at $25.00 per hour for a home visit of 4 hours minimum.

Do you issue receipts for income tax purposes?

Yes.

Do you provide home care services to Veterans?

Yes. The Worn Doorstep is a “Provider” under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs VIP Programme. If the client is a member of the VIP Programme, many of our services will be covered by the government through Blue Cross.

Can I change or discontinue your services at any time?

Yes to both.
